Kitty Star of the Week for May 25 - 31, 2003.
This week, meet Keli. He lives in Iceland with his two "sibling"
cats and his person-dad, who writes,
"Keli is the oldest of my three cats. I came home in cold weather
and snow, the 30th of November 1992 about 2:30 pm. Just after I went
into my apartment, I heard a cat's mew, which was very loud. I went
out to the street, and there I didnīt see any cat. I talked to a
girl through her window on the other side of the street. She told me
that the cat had been staying early in the morning up on the third
floor of a platform for workers that were repairing the house and
that she had called the police to get the cat. She also said she
told the police that she didn't know who owned the cat. I looked
there and saw the cat. Before the police came, I got the cat
to come down the stairs to the lowest platform, where the opening
for the lowest stairs was. The police came some minutes later,
but I was standing on the pavement near the house I live in
at the other side of the street, and I heard the girl tell the
police, she didn't know who its owner was, she just wanted the cat
away. This policeman went upstairs and held the cat, then he
ordered me to walk over the street and grasp (seize) the cat. The cat
came flying into my arms, and the policeman went downstairs,
into the police car and drove away as soon as possible. There
I was standing, holding an unknown, wounded, sick, nervous and
hungry cat.
"I took the cat home and it was very "embracing" (you use some other
word in English). An Icelandic word, having similar meaning, is
"kela", so the cat got his name Keli. This cat is still in my home.
"The two other cats came to me 1996, and when they arrived,
they had just begun to see. Later Keli brought them up and taught
them all that a cat should do and know. He even taught them how
to kill a mouse.
"While I am writing this, Keli is at the right side of the mouse,
something like this:"
