Kitty Stars of the Week for May 21 - 27, 2000.
Cedric is a cat for the new millenium - he and his sister,
Saavik, came to their home by way of the Internet.
In September 1999, when 16-year-old Abigail died, Caryn and
Mark needed a pair of kittens to keep their other
cat, Griffin, 13 years old, company. Right on schedule,
an announcement appeared on a mailing list, DC
WebWomen, for four kittens who needed homes. Cedric and Saavik
arrived home on September 21.
So far, the kittens haven't done anything high-tech.
Cedric seems more intent on proving, by getting into as
much mischief as possible, that he is a BOY kitty! He
doesn't get away with as much as he'd like to, but as you
can see from the picture of him in the sink, sometimes he's
just too cute to punish! He and Saavik spend most
of their time playing with each other and their daddy, and
annoying Griffin. Griffin doesn't understand the
necessity for these creatures, but he's coming around. Cedric
admires Griffin, and wants to be just like him, but
Griffin just thinks he's in the way.
Cedric and Saavik love to play with the many kitty toys they own,
but they don't need toys to have fun. They
love to play with the throw rugs scattered around the apartment; in
this picture, Saavik is trying to bury Cedric under a rug.
Within days of their arrival, Cedric and Saavik decided which parent
belonged to which kitten. Saavik chose to
be Daddy's girl, and Cedric is Mommy's boy. He likes to sleep with
her when she lies down after work, and
crawls under the covers for the last half hour or so before she gets
up in the morning.
Since Cedric won't be a year old until July, he has a long time
ahead of him to develop his personality and
habits, but he's made a good start already!
